Bone Marrow aspiration needle is an instrument used to aspirate Marrow from the Bone
Bones commonly involved: Sternum or posterior iliac crests because they are superficial and make a note that all flat bones and vertebrae in the body contain bone marrow.
Indications:
Bone marrow infiltration:
- Leukaemia/lymphona
- Secondary carcinoma
- Myelofibrosis
Cytopenias:
- Neutropenia
- thrombocytopenia
- Anemia
- Pancytopenia
- Myeloproliferative disorders
Infections:
- Typhoid
- Tuberculosis
Contraindications:
- Bone pain
- Haemorrhage
- Infection
Bone Marrow Aspiration Procedure:
The bone marrow needle is introduced at the site vertically and bone marrow is aspirated with the help of syringe attached to the needle
